Alsace
Alsace (Alsace)
The Alsace region is located in eastern France and borders Germany on the eastern slopes of the Vosges Mountains. Although the area is densely populated and the river Rhine is an area of heavy industry, the surrounding countryside with its dense green forests and lakes and large number of picturesque villages make the area well worth visiting.
The region is also known for its excellent wines (inc. Rieslings) and beers (Fischer, Kronenbourg) and is also renowned for its traditional cuisine especially sauerkraut and Strasbourg sausage. There is a strong local dialect which is still widely spoken, which is a mixture of the French and German languages.
