Limousin
Limousin (Limousin)
A beautiful region with a unique landscape of woodlands, green pasture and deep valleys, this area is the second least populated region of France after the island of Corsica.
The main industry here is agriculture, mainly bovine and potatoes. The cattle industry is very important to the region with beef produced by Limousin and Charolais cattle. Wood, and in particular casks and barrels for the wine industry are produced here and also porcelain from the world famous Limoges factories who are also leaders in the production of electrical equipment.
The region was once part of the Aquitaine (1100-1200), and the spoken language was 'Limousin' which was a dialect of Oc origin and it was not until the early 20th century when the French language was officially enforced.
