The Rhone Alpes is a vast and varied region with high mountain regions to the east which have borders with Switzerland and Italy, the centre being home to the river Rhone valley and the hills of the Ardeche to the west.
The Alps are known worldwide for skiing but they also provide fantastic destinations for the summer with their abundance of rivers and lakes.
There is heavy industry along the banks of the Rhone river which flows north to south and then into the Mediterranean sea.
You will also find some of the finest wine growing regions with Beaujolais and the famous Côtes du Rhone, as well as culinary delights such as Bresse poultry, Lyon 'Rosette' saucisson ad the many cheeses such as Tomme de Savoie, Reblochon and Saint-Marcellin.
